One of my favorite things to do at conferences is the unconference. Karen Huffman, National Geographic Society, and I co-facilitated the 2010 SLA Unconference #9 on Wednesday. The broad topic we used for this unconference was value 2.0. We defined value 2.0 as a kicked up version of value and not necessarily technology-driven.
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words and this excellent mind map created by Karen Huffman during out sessions certainly proves that and gives some intriguing food for thought on libraries and creating value.

One thing that I enjoyed about this unconference session was that it allowed for a small group of attendees from diverse work environments to contribute in a dynamic way throughout the session. It brought an interesting global and cross-disciplinary perspective to the topic.
The rules for an unconference, which we shared at the start of the session, make it a unique experience every time and these rules initially tend to surprise conference-goers who are used to sitting and listening in sessions. Here are the rules:
1. Whoever comes is the right people
2. Whatever happens is the only thing that could have
3. Whenever it starts is the right time
4. When it's over, it's over
And when the conference is all done, don't forget to take in a little of the city. One great way to combine a good walk, some history and legend, and some scary fun is a ghost tour.
