ALA Midwinter 2013: Outside Your Door

While you're here for the 2013 ALA Midwinter Meeting and Exhibits, take some time to step outside the conference center and explore.  Head over to the iconic Space Needle, check out the Seattle underground tour, visit the Seattle Aquarium, wander the Pike Place Market, enjoy the local restaurants.  Seattle is a beautiful city so don't forget to integrate a little bit of it into your conference experience. One of my favorite things about ALA is the massive exhibit hall. it's worth attending the conference just to explore the exhibits.

The Opening Reception in the ALA Exhibit Hall kicked off the exhibits and it was a busy event with a big crowd getting their first chance to visit the booths.

The ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim is almost upon us! Starting this Friday, we will be showing off our new product enhancements at booth #1211. For those of you who will be in attendance, all of us on the Academic team are excited to see you! If you won’t be at the show, however, we still want to share some information on what’s new with the LexisNexis Academic product.

And I thought you might enjoy some numbers from the ALA annual conference:

• 4,011 Flickr pictures
• 10,362 tweets using the #ala2009 tag by 1,321 authors (including the ALA Annual account and other ALA units)
• Many specifics were shared on the breakdown of tweets because ALA created an online Flickr/Twitter tracker for the conference a couple of weeks before the event. You can see it still running, and the code and database will be archived so it can be used for future conferences. Until now, ALA didn't have a good way to archive tweets
• LJ very smartly did a daily recap of what they considered to be the “best” tweets of the day. Reading through them gives an excellent overview of the conference.
